Brian Keeler Studio Dance Activities
Balboa Class- at Oasis Dance Club in Ithaca- Starting Wed, Feb 25th at 5:30
Brian Keeler has been dancing many forms of social dance for years, He’s been teaching them too, in his hometown of Wyalusing, PA and now in his new home in Ithaca NY. He was a member of the Ithaca-based Lindy Hop performance troupe, The Lindy Mints and the Ithaca Salseros. He’s been a Balboa enthusiast for years and also dabbles in other social dances including, Tango, waltz, zydeco, etc. He compiled a video album of some of the numerous performances he’s choreographed and performed in a few years ago-its available on his web site, www.briankeeler.com. He is also a musician and plays guitar in the Ithaca combo, Sunnyside, that specializes in vintage swing. They just recorded their first album. A painter of landscapes, figures and allegory by profession, he blends these three art forms in each discipline to provide a unique take on each.
Brian has been teaching Balboa for several years and this one at Oasis promises to be inspiring and accessible to beginners but savvy and challenging enough for seasoned dancers. One of the original swing dance forms, Balboa is very connected dance that has some similarities to tango but the groove and intricate patterns of swing. Easy to learn and fun to dance. Take this 4 week series with Brian Keeler, who's been doing Bal for many years, and attending Bal events all over, like ABW in Cleveland. EBC in North Carolina, Tinker Bal in Boston and Rocky Mountain Bal in Denver, among others. The class starts at 5:30, and goes until 7. $10 per person per class. No partner necessary.
